Very Poor Management & QC Annoyances

Pros

- Flexible Hours, at least when school is in session and the people who just try to make a quick buck when out of school aren't in the way. - Mentors are good (BUT they have to follow some ridiculous QC "rules")

Cons

- Very low pay (very near min wage). - Students can complain about the smallest things and management/QC actually bows down to their complaints. This gives the impression that there is more concern about customer satisfaction and profits than academic honesty. (Which, is fair as a private company, but this is how it is). - Comments about mentors/QC being on people's cases for the smallest things are true. However, this is due to student complaints or QC flags, *not necessarily that the mentors are prickly* (though some mentors may also be poor, my mentors so far have been fine, but they have had to be sticklers on QC flags still). - Tutor support and upper management does not listen to any recommendations, concerns, or improvements suggested by tutors, or even their mentors. - Management appears most interested in obtaining more contracts for profits, with little concern for academic integrity or standing behind their tutors/employees themselves.

Pros

They seem to have this idea that they are cutting-edge educationally.

Cons

They are not cutting-edge, educationally. Elitist. I had a few decades of experience as a very good and very well-rated writing center tutor. This place humiliated me. Upper management need to be aware of what lower management is saying to the people who work under them.

Pros

Once in a while you make a difference in a kids life. But very rarely.

Cons

Pay is terrible. If you are doing this in addition to your job you are earning about minimum wage minus your marginal rate, so less than $9 an hour. You only get paid when you are in a session if you do on demand. There aren't enough hours you can book, which are hours you try to select where you are paid to sit there with or without a person. This is by design, they minimize your guaranteed paid hours, and don't pay tutors enough for being on demand. Keep in mind parents are being charged $40 an hour and you are coming away with minimum wage. If you are doing this for a full time job good luck. You are far better stocking shelves at Walmart and try teach some of the teenage kids while you fill the shelf. Many of the kids are so far behind and so low in ability you will tear your hair out. High school kids trying to "complete the square" who don't know how to subtract negative numbers. I started off tutoring a lot but the frustration of super low ability kids and getting terrible pay will drive you crazy.
