Pros

Quite convenient for a part-time position. During peak seasons (i.e. fall), there is great availability to schedule hours.

Cons

The rationale behind Tutor.com's approach to student learning is not something that I can get behind.  Since I started in July, it has never once been brought to my attention, through either the very lacking trainings/interviewing process or through my periodic mentor reviews that tutor's were limited to ~3 comments per page. Up until now, I have been doing a diligent job of providing ample comments on each page of the document. I fully cannot understand why I should be penalized for doing more work. To be frank, when I learned about this 3 comment minimum, I was appalled. The fact that tutors are reprimanded for providing more help to their students speaks volumes to the extent to which Tutor.com values its students/customers.  Throughout my sessions I was always pleasantly surprised when I got feedback from a student thanking me for the amount of comments that I made on their work, because they had never experienced that from their previous tutors. Well, those moments of appreciation have been soured now that I realize that the tutors are instructed to minimize feedback. While I was reprimanded for doing more work for my students, I cannot apologize, because if that meant that my students were more pleased with my services and with their writing overall, then I believe I did good work.  I am dismayed at the lack of attention that has been invested into proper training for the tutors. Tutors, like myself, are being castigated for not following guidelines that were never clearly communicated.  By restricting the number of comments per document, I believe that Tutor.com is cheating their students/customers of the full scope of the services for which they signed up for.

Pros

- Very flexible schedule - No need to find your own client base - Base pay when scheduled to work in off-times (summer and winter breaks) - Bonuses for busy times

Cons

- Low pay even for advanced topics and senior tutors - Has a call-center vibe, where time management is prioritized over student success - Ratings are too important; one irritable student can tank your rating - Video sessions are in the pipeline
