Pros

Lots of room for growth, mainly if you are able to outlast most people, so if you are committed, you can definitely gain good work experience. Competitive pay once you prove your worth, and they are usually open to negotiating. Average age of coworkers is mid 20s.

Cons

Average workday is 12hrs. Upper management consists of young people who have extremely inflated egos and have no business managing people. Most sales people take Production for granted, and expect them to work around the clock to support them. In general, the company preys on young, desperate professionals who don't have much work experience (and don't know any better) so that they can work their employees into the ground. Nobody - not your boss, not your boss' boss, not your coworkers - cares about you as an individual. You really don't want to work here. Really.

Pros

I've been in Production NYC at TPT for over 4 years. Yes, it's a demanding place to work, but that is part of why it is special. I've worked at a couple agencies before TPT and I never experienced the kind of teamwork and cooperative environment that I see day in and day out at TransPerfect. This is particularly true of large projects...and from the top down. We had a huge job last year that required us to (literally) work around the clock for weeks. It may seem counter-intuitive, but this time period stands out as one of the experiences I've had in my career/work life. It was truly representative of the spirit of TPT Production - all hands were on deck working to meet the deadline. Even Phil (the CEO) was working 20 hour days with us...sitting in cubicles and sourcing documents with the team. The people are fun and it doesn't take long to feel like you're part of a family. Another big plus is that you learn a lot in a short period of time, and if you're willing to work hard there IS room for advancement, unlike other companies that I've worked for who claim that.

Cons

The starting salaries could be better, but I am pretty sure that I've said that about every job I've ever had. Also, working with Sales can be a bit stressful...but, again, this is probably also a universal reality.

Good opportunties but stressful environment and poor management

Pros

- move up quickly - performance driven - smart people - young - extremely social environment - opportunities for growth and to move both horizontally and vertically within company - travel opportunities -diverse group of people - learn a lot in a short amount of time

Cons

- upper management no clue how to manage people. Most people in their late 20s, early 30s and got promoted because they've been at the company a long time but with little to no management experience. - can be a popularity contest at times, like a fraternity - extremely stressful (workload expectations too much), long hours - can be unprofessional (lots of upper management sleeping with staff) - poor pay (especially for entry level) - high turnover rate - baptism by fire
