Pros

You get some knowledge on translation tools and platforms.

Cons

Don’t know what’s the deal with the other offices, but the Amsterdam office is definitely falling apart. People are quitting every day because of the unreasonable expectations and the toxic office culture: Double standards, favouritism and lack of respect towards employees. The salaries are a joke. Too much work with a minimum salary and no extra benefits at all. The employees are treated like slaves, required to handle twice as much work as they should, without receiving any appreciation, benefits or development opportunities. The team leads don’t even show up at the office most days (and when they do, they are usually high on drugs) but they expect their employees to work overtime every single day, without extra payment of course! People do not get a decent raise or a promotion, unless they are the manager’s ‘pet’. There are no transparent or fair selection processes for new positions, the managers just pick their best friends (or people who are willing to do drugs with them). People talking behind each others’ back constantly, you cannot trust anyone. Management is urging employees to express their complaints and be honest, but when you do that they just use everything you said against you when the time comes. The older people who have been working there for a while are either rude or totally useless, no hope trying to work with them. I guess it’s ok if you need an internship for a semester or so. Overall, it’s a waste of time and that’s why people with experience and skills run away from this place as soon as possible.

Pros

You get the chance to learn a lot about the translation industry. My colleagues.

Cons

Toxic enviroment. Extra hours are pretty much taken for granted and not compensated in any shape or form. Most employees are overwhelmed by the amount of work they are asked to handle on a dalily basis (which is simply too much) and it is not uncommon to see people crying in the office regularly. However managment does not seem to take employees unhappliness seriously and blames people for being too negative or dramatic, without offering any form of support nor any empathy. Any complaints gets shush down as quick as possible and the person that raised a critique or complaint gets emarginated as much as possible by the managers by talking behind the employees back with other employees.

Pros

Bonding with coworkers over the pettiness. Interesting people work on the lower rungs. I told myself the cutthroat environment would push me to be better at my job, but that was a misplaced hope.

Cons

Even in the supposedly better-outfit New York office, persistently toxic work culture coming down from management. Sales dictates everything; if you're in production, you're SOL and taking the blame for whatever goes wrong. Bro-culture & obvious disrespect for workers in management, constant pressure to give more of yourself to this dysfunctional place in exchange for perks.
