Pros

-If you're desperate for a job, well, it is still a job. -Free tea and coffee to help you stay awake during the 12 hours at the office

Cons

-Low pay -Management treats you like dirt -My manager, specifically, had no idea what he or she was doing. It's a mystery how he or she got the job. -The HR policies are deceptive. HR will tell you that you can accumulate the hours you've worked overtime to take days off later. However you will not be able to take them off when there's "low capacity", and will continue to accrue them. -Long hours.. It's sick that some people actually brag that they've stayed at the office until 2am. If you think you'd have a problem staying at the office until 2am while getting paid less than 10 euros an hour, don't work here.

Pros

Although working at TransPerfect is indeed a job and steady (low) income as an internal employee, at what cost? This is a good company to gain experience in the workforce as a first job, especially because they will only hire recent college grads with no professional experience. This is a key part of their business model and revolving door of hiring. It is also a good place to get a start as no real skills are required for any position. They simply hire the cheapest people they can find, and if you're single with no children, it's a perk, as they will pressure you to work long hours. Another pro to working here is that you won't have much oversight from management as they are always too busy dealing with daily crises and "training" all the new employees that are hired every few days. In any case, management isn't even qualified to manage or judge work as they have no real skills themselves. There are some really great people that work there on lower levels and there is opportunity to make good friends. Misery loves company after all. Unfortunately, there is such high turnover that your friends will probably leave within a year.

Cons

TransPerfect is not a company to work for if you want to feel proud of where you work. While there are good employees who genuinely care, none of them have any power, which is unfortunate. Eventually these good people leave out of frustration, disrespect and lack of monetary compensation for the hours worked. None of the intelligent people are ever listened to, in fact, are often hushed, as management doesn't want to hear any productive ideas to improve the company, only to make their wallets fatter. There is no job security whatsoever. There is no contract, and they make it clear that whatever your position is, you are easily replaceable. Do not try to negotiate a livable salary, they will just tell you to quit. (They won't fire you to avoid expenses or unemployment, but instead make your life miserable until you do.) The average length of stay at this company is probably 6 months to a year. The only employees that end up staying any considerable amount of time are foreigners whose visas are tied to the company. It is telling that in an economic downturn, employees quit left and right with nothing lined up after simply because the conditions are so miserable. If you are a freelancer, don't even think of working for them. They will treat you like garbage and offer you below market rates. They are proud of the fact that they've driven down prices so low that no one can make a living wage from freelancing for them unless they live in the third world. Also, part of the money-making scheme is to blame freelancers for problems then demand discounts from the job. Apparently they don't understand that costs can only be cut so far, they will eventually have to pay someone for something, but the business model depends on the cheapest people they can find, a veritable sweatshop of translation. They claim upon hiring that it's a meritocracy, which is a complete joke. If you receive a "promotion," it's never backed up monetarily, instead, they will drown you with work and blame you when things go wrong. The only reason you would be promoted is because so many other people have quit and you are the only one left. People are not treated equally and policies are never clear and there is no accountability whatsoever. Usually those that are promoted are the ones that get the drunkest with their managers (it often feels like a giant fraternity). HR does not look out for employees' interests, they are simply a tool of upper management to get people to quit before any real benefits have to be paid. HR is so incompetent they can't even return phone calls or emails or call you when you have a scheduled interview. I would only recommend someone to work here if I wanted to destroy that relationship. I would venture to guess that no one that has worked at this company has left with a positive impression. And this does not even touch upon the unethical business practices...

Pros

If they like you, they will be very flexible if you have personal problems and need to work from a different country or city temporarily. Good if you don't have experience or very little experience as you will learn a lot here.

Cons

DO NOT WORK HERE! If you decide to work here, good luck. Kiss goodbye to your mental and physical health. I am leaving this LONG review because I don’t want anyone else to live the hell I and other people went through at this disgusting company. If you are thinking “it should be okay, maybe reviews are not true or it’s not that bad, I can stay here for 1 year”, please think twice, because I can promise you that this is bad. All the negative reviews on Glassdoor are true. Those few positive reviews you see are from departments/people who are brainwashed, management’s friends or work in a team where they don’t have much work/need to work overtime. - Pay is VERY low. You can earn the same money (and more) in hospitality, luxury retail and other roles and with less stress, less responsibilities. - Workload is CRAZY. They accept everything the clients send them…they give you a project at 3pm and expect you to deliver at 5-6pm of the same day! Their deadlines for some accounts and projects are impossible. If you are lucky, you will get projects with turnaround times of 12, 24 and 48 hours, but this depends on the projects and accounts. - Internal linguists are underpaid and overworked (they all left the company…there are very few internal linguists left and they are all newbies). No equipment provided for working from home. I wasn’t given anything to work from home during lockdown either. No financial help to buy the equipment as “it’s your own choice to work from home”. - If you work in sales, you will not be provided with your own phone for work purposes. You must use your own phone and be expected to even reply to emails over the weekend, in some teams. - Overtime every day. If you are lucky enough to be in a team with very little work (compared to other teams), you will be fine but that’s not common. Most teams are overworked and work 10-14 hours a day. Overtime is not paid but they make sure to remind you that your contract says that they can treat you like a slave without remuneration. How disgusting. I haven’t signed anything that says I can work over 48 hours, yet I even worked 60 -70 hours a week. When you tell them you are overwhelmed and burnt out and you are doing too many hours, they will kindly remind you that it is your own problem because you decided to do those extra hours…when they pressured you to do more or literally micromanaged you and told you horrible things, gaslighted you etc… - HR is not on your side. They are as bad as the management. - When you start, you must undergo a ridiculous and micromanaged training programme that will make you feel like you are at a nursery. They will even tell you how to organise your own email folders. Everything they tell you is not an advice. They will make sure to make you feel bad about yourself and will sit next to you to observe the way you work and point out every little thing you do, saying that you make too many mistakes. If your performance is so good that they cannot find anything to criticise you for, they will ‘attack’ you character. None of the things that they point out in these “efficiency sessions” (that’s what they tell you… “We only do this to check if you are efficient…we are doing this with everyone”) are mistakes. You have no freedom, but if you ask them questions, they tell you that you should be able to make your own decisions. If you make a decision on your own for very silly things, they will immediately schedule a call with you to let you know how horrible you are for not asking your manager if it’s okay to do that first. Basically, whatever you do or say, it’s always your fault. - They demoted everyone a couple of years ago and decreased our pay. - No adjustments made to our salaries despite people working 2 or 3 jobs to pay for rent due to the rising costs of living. - Many people who have been “promoted” have been waiting for over 6 months for their raise, which was promised to them and never received. - If you have a 2nd or 3rd job, even if completely unrelated to the industry (e.g., waiter), they will pressure you to quit those jobs and threaten you to terminate your contract saying that your performance is not good. Usually, these are the people who work the most and make them earn lots of money, so they want you to work even more to squeeze out more blood from you before putting you in the bin and kiss you goodbye. - Everyone must work from the office 3 days a week. No flexibility for this unless you are friend of one of the managers or they particularly like you. - Micromanagement. If you tell them that you are upset, hurt or not happy about this, they will INSULT you either directly or indirectly and will tell you that you are the problem, that you are rude and unprofessional for simply saying that you are burnt out. - You are expected to be in the office 3 days a week, yet all the team meetings are via Teams with people from other offices and in different time zones. What’s the point? They just want you there to micromanage and abuse you even more and to justify their management roles and rent. - Equipment provided (in the office) is horrible. They use very cheap monitors and computers (unless you are their friends or a director etc…then you might be able to get something a bit better). - Discrimination and bullying - Managers are often on holiday whilst employees can’t go on holiday if even just 1 or 2 (no more than TWO people for each team can go…even in big teams) of their team members is also on holiday (bear in mind again that we are a large group of people, not a team of 5 people…). I was denied time off multiple times. - No time off for Christmas. You can have maybe 1 or 2 days off, but that’s it. Only some people are allowed to always be off. Again, discrimination. - Managers and Directors often working from home and from different countries, on holiday and working different hours. There are a few managers and directors that are never in the office and pressure people to be in the office whilst they enjoy their time in Greece, Spain etc… - Some people are currently dealing with suicidal thoughts…yes, it’s that bad. - Private Medical Insurance is ONLY available AFTER 5 YEARS of employment. Yes, you have read correctly. They will not give it to you if you haven’t been employed for at least 5 years… - You must work Bank Holidays (some teams require 2 BH only, some 3 but they will pressure you to work). If you work Monday to Friday, you get the day of BH back as PTO + 1 extra day. These days will be put in a separate tracker and can be used whenever you want (they don’t expire) and will not appear in the system…if you wish to take some holidays and use these BH credits, they will pressure you into using your PTO first. Why? Because there is a high turnover rate in this company, therefore, if you use all your PTOs holidays, they will try and not pay you the BH days (the ones in the tracker) you worked for. Let me tell you that this is ILLEGAL, and you can easily report them and force them to pay these to you if you leave the company. - As mentioned, the turnover rate is very high. I have seen people quitting after only 1-3 months. I once saw over 25 people quitting in less than 6 months. - Software needed by everyone everyday not available as the company doesn’t want to spend money on the licences. We have 5- 6 licences only and YOU MUST use this software for each project you work on (particularly in some teams) as it’s a mandatory step of your file preparation. How do you expect people to work efficiently and quickly if you cannot provide them with the software needed for the job that YOU requested to be MANDATORY! I have more to say but I reckon this is enough.
