Pros

The benefits (health, dental, 401K, etc.) are very respectable. They are stepping up there efforts to promote innovation within the company and increase participation certainly a good direction for the company.

Cons

The facilities and offices are dark and have not been updated in 40 years it seems. The company has kept around many of its old guard and it is going through a bit of a transition period so there is friction between the old and the new. They offer many, many online courses but it becomes very difficult to be sent to traveling location whether outside the company or on the IRU campus in Davidson.

Pros

It an interesting environment to work and provides a good growth path for people with an engineering focus or aptitude. The company is very supportive of staff development and invests heavily in product development as well. The company has some great staff, both at headquarters, and scattered throughout the continental US and abroad. Having the opportunity to work with some of our international partners has been particularly rewarding. Finally I would have to say that anyone considering a position with Thermo King could do a lot worse if you are interested in working within a very engineering driven organization. T

Cons

Long hours are part of the culture and there is a fantastical expectation that work comes first. While there have been some attempts at creating a work life balance, overall the company does demand a great deal from its employees. Having working in a number of other organizations, both directly and in a consulting capacity, I can really fault Thermo King for the overall culture. The company may stifle some creative avenues in product development (but this can be largely overcome by some internal networking and marketing prior to pitching your dev. idea.). That's about it for this review. I

Pros

The company has a good reputation. People I tell that I work for IR that know it, know it as a well respected company. We have a proud history and a reputation for quality and innovation. Payment is good. Honestly, that is probably the main reason I am still with the company. Financially, I am doing OK with the company. I do well enough that I can go home and enjoy my life with my family. The 401k is great. The matching up to 6% is fantastic. The pay and benefits make IR a hard place to want to leave for those reasons.

Cons

Horrible Management. Political Environment is bad. I have worked here for around a decade. Things are as bad as I ever remember them. That includes the time after 9/11 when people were being fired all over the place. I did not start out working for Industrial Technologies, obviously. The previous components of Industrial Technologies were autonomous and more responsive to our customers. ITS is big and unresponsive. It is now a stereotypical huge business that is part of an even bigger business that cares way WAY more about bottom lines and stock prices, than doing what we are actually supposed to do. That is to make top quality equipment that help our customers do what they do. If we focused more on that, the stock price and bottom line would take off like a rocket.
