Pros

- Work life balance is quite towards life. - Good benefits - Good insight into the industry

Cons

- You better be french in this company or speak french like your mother tongue if you want to make career. - Innovation is very difficult. Very siloed development environments. - Big decisions are often very suddenly announced. Lots of what's happening in the company is done behind closed doors. Very little transparency. - Very hierarchical.

Pros

Diverse and varied work load A lot of autonomy in the role Exciting time to be at the Company as it grows, diversifies and sinks billions into renewables and new energy ventures to move away from oil Strong focus on Safety Flexible work arrangements and good vacation/family leave policy

Cons

Still don't pay as well as their competitors Large Company with all the associated bureaucracy Still too Paris-centric with French nationals in most key positions Productivity issues in some departments with a certain amount of deadwood Lack of transparency with job opportunities although efforts being made to correct this. Quality of managers varies, some have been in position too long and are focused on retiring. Constantly being asked to do more for less

Office politics over results!

Pros

Good pay, good training, on the job knowledge transfer in some affiliates

Cons

Slow progression of ideas and innovation. If an idea doesn't come from one regarded as an expert, it's not taken. The school you graduated from determines your career progression. Too much office politics and sucking up to bosses to move up the ladder than appreciation for work delivery. He who doesn't work as hard can be better appraised than the hard worker. A lot of incompetent middle management that got positions based on politics. Gossip also seems to be a part of the culture. Technical contest of ideas are taken as disrespect, I guess that's why they are not the number 1 in the O & G industry.
