Pros

Friendly co-workers, mostly positive work environment, decent benefits for full-timers. Excellent employee discounts on products.

Cons

At the time I was working there, taking breaks (which the labor laws require) was discouraged. I worked 12 hour shifts, with allowance of a 30 minute lunch, and no other breaks. In addition, workers were required to memorize the day's sales goal. Let's be honest - no employee who works in non-commission-based retail cares about the daily sales goal. I worked hard at my job, had a good attitude, etc, but felt like a chump when I was required to spit out sales goals on command. Mid-level management thought it cute to quiz retail workers during their shift, unannounced, to see if you'd memorized the sales goal. It felt demeaning, considering that myself, or other retail workers weren't directly affected by the sales goal being met.

Pros

Co-workers are interesting people, and mostly motivated to get job done. Wages are OK for entry level retail in this region. Store is clean, safety is honored. Most customers are civil; many are way above average.

Cons

Don't seem to understand why people leave - keep insisting it's a transient area, but there are many many people in need of permanent jobs here who can't get hired here because they need more than 15 hours a week, and they need fixed schedules. They pay for parking, but nothing for those dependent on public transit - fix this for fairness sake. They don't recycle. They bale large cardboard, but trash plastic and small boxes. Won't even allow employees to take home bubble wrap and boxes that end up in landfill. Seem ignorant of and uninterested in other ecological concerns they could address in individual stores - and be seen as leaders. The everyone thrives meme is over-rated and becoming out-dated.

Pros

The people you work side by side with are the one and only good aspect for working at The Container Store. Benefits are average, but better than not having any.

Cons

Pay freeze, no 401k match, very poor management at the corporate, store, and distribution level. Company stock tanking, current company vision unsustainable and saddled with major debt.
