Pros

Good discount on the merchandise. Met some really good friends here.

Cons

Since being bought up by a venture group (same people that own petsmart) the company has lost most of its charm and culture. its begining to be a lot more like any typical big-box retail chain - its all about money, money, money and people second. Salary freeze in effect and the management structure in the store has the managers doing a whole lot of nothing in the back room most of the time.

They pay relatively well. If you're young and you want to learn retail, this might be a good place.

Cons

These people are too wierd to describe--just this side of a cult. I started at the Lexington Avenue store in NYC. We were a great group and we made a good team. We cared passionately about doing a good job. One by one, they fired people. If your baby was sick and you couldn't come in, you were gone. If you had the wrong look on your face at the morning huddle, it was "insubordination" and you were gone. This constant firing left not enough people to do the work. Customer service suffered. The way they treat employees borders on abusive.

Really flexible hours, and they don't make you feel like you're selling total crap. It's good quality stuff.

Cons

Long holiday hours and a move towards being open on holidays they hadn't previously been open for.
