Pros

When I was there the original owners were still in place. They went out of their way to provide training to employees and to be the best at customer service. They encouraged employees to see themselves as ' owners' to give us a feeling of empowerment. When one feels like it's their own business they're better employees.

Cons

I hear from employees that are still working there that there have been so many changes lately that it's just isn't what it used to be. I would suspect that the economy has a lot to do with that.

Pros

Great pay, flexible scheduling for the most part, light work load, generally some very great people to work with, good clientele. Best place to work when it comes to retail.

Cons

It's changed a lot over the years. Becoming much more corporate feel to it, in spite of the little "we love our employees" promotions they do. They've become much more "pushy" with sales tactics, and it probably has something to do with the silent partners that bought out half the company a few years back.

Pros

The customers are great, and we sell outstanding products. There was once a fun energy to the store and I think I am still trying to feel it even though the store has changed. Most of the great people in my store have already left, with disgust.

Cons

Crazy scheduling, not just your average retail schedule. You are expected to be "Gumby" and inside term meant to exemplify your willingness to do whatever it takes for the business. It's a fun idea if everyone plays along, but the Store Managers sit in a room while you run around like a chicken with it's head cut off. You have to be gumby but they are incredibly inflexible. Most of the managers in my store can't even perform most of the duties expected of the team. There is a "Foundation Principle" touting "Communication = Leadership" and yet it is the leaders of the store who do not communicate. If someone leaves the store, it can take weeks or months before many people realize the person is gone. Everything is a secret, no transparency. There is no opportunity for closure. There is a very real culture of recapping everything via voice-mail to your superiors but what they really want is for you to throw other co-workers under the bus. They say the way to get scheduled hours is to be "available" as much as possible. This is from 5 AM to Midnight 7 days a week! If make yourself available for 40 reasonable hours per week, you might get 10 hours, in 3 hour shifts. A computer makes the schedule and they claim that they go along with what it says. I can't figure out what 3 of them are doing in their offices if it doesn't involve scheduling. This is a terrible place to work. Every time I see new hires sitting in "Foundation Day" I want to scream "RUN"!
