Pros

Great discount if you like their products. The most wonderful co-workers I have ever worked with, bar none. Flexible work schedule, ability to take time off (but not paid vacation until you've been there three years) -- good for people who just want a few hours as second job or moms to get out of the house.

Cons

Unfortunately, my experience at TCS did not quite match up to my expectations of a Fortune top company to work for. It seems their Employee First culture is rapidly sliding downhill. You don't get a lot of variety in your shifts, and will end up working the register for 5 hours a lot, unless you have put yourself in the good graces of the Store managers. There is no stability in scheduling for part-timers, you tell them when you are available, and you will get shifts all over the place that will wildly vary week to week. Some weeks you may get 10 hours, another week 25 hours with different days and different shifts. You can't depend on a set income. The other thing that surprised me is the blatant disregard for breaks during shorter shifts. Our state requires a paid break for every 4 hours worked, and not once in three years was I ever offered a paid break during 4 to 5 hour shifts. For a company that says they put their employees first, that's a little shocking. Since they went public, the general manager has become obsessed to the point of calling people out on the sales floor to the point everyone is scared to death of her. It's not a fun place to work anymore.

Pros

This was by far one of the worst places I ever worked. My pay was 14.00 an hour, NOT 50k a year!!! 5 interviews, they begged me to take a full time position, which i could not. I started and was micro managed constantly. Work was cult-like. Smile or be written up.

Cons

Bad hours, veteran employees who hate newcomers and will do anything to badmouth them. Vets afraid of losing hours, so everybody is a threat. Time off policies ridiculous, no perks with horrific health insurance, company values definetly very cultish. When did I EVER make 50k a year as a FT? I'd love to know?

Pros

Bright & Clean Work Environment Although they were not the greatest, they do offer a benefits package to part-time workers as well as full-time workers. However, it was the first time I had ever heard of the health care provider & after speaking with fellow co-workers they informed me that they were not that great.

Cons

I was Hired as a sales floor associate and was immediately thrown into doing carry out which required carrying heavy furniture items & hardware to customers vehicles and we were not allowed to accept any kind of tip/tips for our hard work. It took the store 5 months after I was hired to begin to train me for what I was hired to do. There are multiple shifts including late night truck (8:00 pm- Midnight/1:00 am, early morning truck (5:00 am) and fluctuating shifts all day. Even if you have requested not to work these shifts you wind up being responsible to work a couple here & there. You are not allowed to wear a sweatshirt of your own. All attire worn must represent The Container Store brand & if you need additional attire you have to PURCHASE it from their online store & it is deducted from your pay. Lack of understanding & communication between management and their employees. I had informed management multiple times that I could not carry heavy items for carry out because I have arthritis and I was NOT HIRED to perform such a role in the store. However, they were not at all understanding of this and after multiple doctors visits & co-pays and doctors notes I finally got out of having to do carry out'. Also, there was a communal coat rack with coats that all employees in the store got to share when doing carry out because they don't allow you to wear your own coat so must wear one that ....who knows how many others have worn before you.
