Pros

1) Salary is good relative to other technology companies in the Toronto area. 2) The work is interesting if you like trains. 3) Some very good middle managers.

Cons

1) The senior management is completely incompetent. Thales has probably the best communications based train control system in the world and could be the dominant company in the field however the senior management have failed to exploit the opportunity. 2) Current office location at 401 and Don Valley makes for a nightmare commute. 3) Senior management enjoy looking for a scapegoat amongst the employees to blame for the companies ills. 4) Company claims that in Thales "people are first", this is a lie.

Pros

There are some interesting cutting edge projects to work on and you’ll gain a lot of experience from working with highly talented and intelligent individuals.

Cons

Thales will run you into the ground and won’t reward you well enough for it. They want to hire “700” Engineers yet are perfectly happy to let the best leave with a wealth of knowledge and replace them with inexperienced graduates to save a couple of grand. People with zero communication or managerial skills are promoted to roles that they don’t hold the skills for and constantly make decisions that’ll jeopardise key contracts. As others have said it’s run like a 1980s company with no consideration for what talented young engineers want to aspire to do (perform at their best for the success of the company). Instead upper and middle management would rather coast on their nice comfortable salaries and retire early while the company declines, and refuses to entertain the idea of innovation (i.e. let’s just copy this). It’s a good place to start out but move on and fast.

Pros

Decent Pay and Benefits for job level

Cons

Poor Management that is more concerned with their position than with moving the company forward. Only the French employees have an real staying power. Since there are no laws that protect American employees they are disposable. Extremely high turnover rate. No team integrity and no structure for engineering (even so far as to following the principles of Agile). Engineering is a nightmare. No Configuration or Data control or management. The lights are kept in by the old IFEC system programs. They are unable to keep a customer or contract for more than a year. They speak of "Digital Transformation" but are completely unwilling to change the way they do business to adapt to the market. Definitely stay away if you are an engineer over the age of 30. Bad place for intermediate/senior level engineers of all disciplines
