Impactful mission, smart people, but frequent changes create inefficiencies

Pros

Mission-driven work with genuinely smart, thoughtful people who care deeply about improving healthcare. Opportunity to have outsized impact, especially if you’re comfortable building while flying the plane. Senior leaders are often open to ideas and there’s room to shape functions, systems, and ways of working (if you’re proactive.)

Cons

Frequent reorgs, shifting priorities, and leadership turnover can create change fatigue and ambiguity. Teams operate reactively, which can make long-term planning difficult and create trust gaps across functions. Roles and ownership often feel unclear. High performers often take on significantly expanded scope quickly. Alignment happens late (or, due to not listening to expertise getting provided upfront) - leading to rework, frustration, and time wasted.

Pros

Decent Pay and work from home. Employment is good.

Cons

New Leaders coming in removing legacy folk (as if they are the problem) and bringing in their own who take months to ramp up and face the exact same problems

Toxic culture and incompetent leadership

Pros

Some truly wonderful and well-meaning colleagues who are doing their very best each day despite the odds being stacked against them.

Cons

Getting weekly emails of colleagues departing, either voluntarily or involuntarily, along with emails about re-orgs almost just as often. Few of those positions are backfilled and those that are have more work in an even more chaotic environment with a lower title and less pay. Because of all the turnover, people who aren't qualified are then promoted into leadership positions, and then throw their teams under the bus when they fail. This company personifies the "This is Fine" meme with the dog at the table smiling when everything is on fire around him.
