Pros

The best reason in my opinion was how easy it is to get a job there and the flexibility due to their extended hours. In addition, being a cashier gave me experience I may never have again after graduating from college. The basic day to day functions are best found when working as a cashier as you have interaction with both other employees as well as customers. Finally, Target is very open to hiring college students with relatively little or no experience, which is great for those who did not work through high school as many in this day and age do not.

Cons

Downsides include opening and closing shifts.

Pros

Friendly people, fast paced, decent benefits, opportunities to advance. If you can cut it, Target is a growing company with opportunities in many different areas. Leaders are developed and promoted. Salaries seem to be good.

Cons

If working in the stores the hours you work vary. Retail around the holidays is a challenge. If you are an executive in the stores you have to deal with Team Members who are perhaps not as eager as you to advance and get the job done. There tends to be a sink or swim mentality with new executives. Either you can cut it or you are gone. Quickly. There is also a unique corporate style that may not appeal to everyone.

Pros

It is always good to learn about retail and how a store operates and that is what Target shows you, from the front end to the backroom. They are very open to change and make sure new procedures and policies are tested before a massive rollout. They are also very big on rewarding and praising employees who do a good job. Plus you can't beat the 10% employee discount.

Cons

The schedule is one of the major downsides. As a Team Leader you close one weekend a month, plus your normal weekday night, and you will stay until the store is picked up and finished (even if that means until 1 or 2 in the morning), then you have to turn around and open the store the very next day. They don't understand that after midnight, most employees production goes downhill. Also you work with a lot of young teenager's, who will bring high school to work. This is sometimes their first or second job, so gossip is more important than the job.
