Pros

I think it's a good staring point. I love their approaches, or themes...Fast, Fun, and Friendly; to be Best With Guests; Be in Stock. I think every company believes in these concepts, but Target has taken this to the next level. I love the energy that they infuse you with, and I even love the RED. The people are great. On the whole these are people I would consider my friends. I think most go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. They have a good team member recognition in place, and sufficient incentives available- ie. games, fun food days (don't laugh...you'd be surprised how an unexpected free pretzel can brighten a day, or a full meal turn a frown rightside up.) choosing team cards weekly and monthly, calling out recognition in their meetings. You have the ability to learn a variety of new skills, and take those skills with you. I also think some of their discounts are fabulous. There is an employee discount of 10% (average), but I think the extra discounts are actually better, things like reduced child care expenses, discounted theater tickets, reduced gym fees, and discounts for other items such as Dell computers and Verizon phones and services.

Cons

The two biggest current problems are salary and time. Since I think it's only common sense to provide pay that would enable the average person to meet at least half to 3/4 of monthly living expenses for a 40 hr. work week, I think they're pay scale is a little low. In addition to the hourly wages, it is currently difficult for a team member to attain a 40 hr. work week in certain areas, or even come close...we'll say to 32 hrs...which also affects the weekly pay. I do not believe their benefits package is outstanding enough to cover these to basic needs, though I think it is relatively standard. I usually feel that there are not sufficient team members scheduled to take care of the work load and complete everything that needs to be done. In addition, I'm not a big fan of their credit card push.

Pros

Discount, flexibility, and night shift opportunity for students. Working nights can be fun - the store is closed and you can do your job at your pace. We almost always had opportunity to work more hours. Management sometimes provided free dinner / snacks to night employees.

Cons

Not much by way of promotion availability. It's retail - you generally have to work with some pretty uncompetent peers who make the same blanket wage as you do. Holidays are almost mandatory. Generally, you couldn't do your work and go home. You were always asked to help someone else in their area to complete the job- many "milked" the hourly clock and therefore took 4 hours to do a job that should've took one - understandable from one perspective given it was the only job they had to pay their bills.

Pros

Great benefits. Match your 401K 1:1 up to 5%. Direct Deposit for all employees, very accurate computer system for keeping track of your hours worked. Don't have to be worried about getting screwed over. They run their company by the book. Won't let you work over 6 hours without taking a lunch, 45 minute lunches, and two 15 minute breaks (per 8 hour shift).

Cons

Depending on your position, the hours may not be very good. Like any job, senior management competency is hit and miss.
