Pros

Target does allow for a personal life. When I ask for time off at the very last minute I get it, no problem. Most of the people I work with are great to work with, very friendly, and professional, and are more than willing to help me when I need the help.

Cons

I work in the new Target store in Sunnyvale, CA, I wish I can tell you that the experience has been both pleasant and smooth, but sadly I can't. The process of scheduling employees for shifts has been nothing but dismal, if not a nightmare. I have never been with a company that can't get such a basic process right. Every week since I started I have had issues with scheduling ranging from getting my schedule at the very last minute (which has caused me to cancel out on a couple of work days since I wasn't going to cancel out on personal plans I had set up) to getting multiple schedules for the same week which has prevented me from clocking in and out on the time clock, and filling out paperwork instead, to not getting the number of hours that I wanted or the shifts that I wanted due to the fact that I was "Unavailable" which isn't true at all, and they still haven't fixed that problem, to not getting any hours at all for no reason like this week. Just once I'd like a work week to go smoothly where I don't have to worry about my schedule. They have once again cut hours in the store by 2,000 hours and they just opened a couple of weeks ago, and it comes on the heels of this store cutting hours a couple of weeks prior to opening. IT's a sure sign that management has no idea of what it's doing and a real lack of leadership. IT's bad enough that this company pays its hourly employees next to nothing, but it's even worse when they start paying them less when they cut hours. OF course, the store execs don't care since it doesn't affect them since they are salaried. This job pays ok if it's someone's very first job, but just because they say their pay is "competitive", don't be fooled, that is completely meaningless pay is almost nonexistent, I would not recommend a job like this to anyone. They overwork people based on pay. My advice is go work somewhere else.

Pros

benefits, salary, innovative logistics programs, possibility of transfer throughout the country, big-box retail experience at a well respected company that could lead to better positions elsewhere

Cons

overwork, lack of respect for store leadership teams, overselling of promotional opportunites at all levels that never come to fruition, difficulty in displaying passion for job without being unduly criticized. Target expects that you'll behave in a specific way but does not treat you in the same manner.
