Pros

There definitely is a sense of pride from working for this company, and there are little fun perks that make every day interesting and fun. There will be lunches, off-sites, team building outings, etc. and on a daily basis you never really know when someone is going to propose something fun to do and almost always everybody is on-board. Target is also very aware and understanding of their employees' personal lives and whatever needs sometimes arise. They also have a great 401k program that matches your contributions up to 5% of your bi-weekly salary dollar to dollar.

Cons

If you happen to be in a non-exempt position (Merchandising Specialist), you're going to have a very VERY hard time making the transition and "earning" a promotion to an exempt role. There is a very uncomfortable stigma that comes with almost any non-exempt role at this company's HQ. The feeling overall is that since you're a non-exempt you must not be as smart or capable as the exempt employees, even when you have the same college degree and in many instances even better grades or a more successful academic history than most of their newly recruited college graduates. You're also not treated overall the same as the newly recruited business analysts in the company (mostly young 22-24 year olds), and while they move on to bigger and better things almost every year and a half to two years, you'll find yourself trying and trying and trying to get a shot at something better. They'll have you jumping though hoops and not really supporting your desire to become an exempt employee and really begin your professional career.

Pros

Benefits are best in the industry. There are promotional opportunities if you are young and have no ties to anything. It can be about who likes you though.

Cons

They do not appreciate their managers. I was told I had to make choices between my work life and my family life. If I took vacation, I would have to "make it up" to other managers in the store. They basically penalized me for vacation time, which is my right and benefit. They also have issues with integrity.

Pros

Pay was very competitive for retail and the atmosphere was very positive. People were quite friendly and it was fun to come to work most days.

Cons

You have responsibility, but it doesnt seem like that much. Glorified shelf-stocker at times. Customers were also a pain at times and difficult, but that happens almost anywhere. Expect to work a few nights a week and every other weekend. Dont expect any time off between Thanksgiving and New Years.
