Pros

I joined Tableau nearly two years ago because I love the mission of the company - helping people see and understand data. Tableau has industry leading software, and all the employees use our own software. Pros: -Great mission -Software is industry - leading. Tableau has an extremely enthusiastic customer base -Great executive leadership team - knows how to focus the organization in tough times -Very smart and passionate colleagues -This is a very product-centric company, high investment in R&D -New employee training is extensive and company provides the structure for new employees to cultivate relationships with their colleagues -Great benefits -When it comes to measurable results, i.e. leads, Tableau has the best marketing organizations out of all the companies I've worked for.

Cons

-Pay is definitely below that of comparable tech companies. I was fine with it when I first joined because since Tableau was growing so quickly, I believed I would have great career growth opportunities, and the pay increase would come later. Salary increase with PAs do not keep up with inflation rate. -Career path/career development: When I first started at Tableau, I had a great manager who was great at looking out for my career growth. My first manager gave me lots of new projects that helped me gain new skills and helped me increase my visibility in the rest of the marketing organization. This person led by example. However, after less than a year, because my team grew, I was transitioned to a new manager. Things changed a lot from there. My new manager did not give me meaningful projects that helped me grow. Also took credit for my work without giving me appropriate recognition. In 2015, my team grew dramatically, and the scope of my responsibilities within the team was actually reduced although I was getting better at my job. I hit a ceiling in my role very quickly. When I first started at Tableau, I was encouraged to explore my interests and move into a new role in the future. But actually moving to a different role is very hard. I've tried to move internally a couple of times, but unsuccessfully. Even though I felt I was a great fit for the role I was applying for and the hiring manager on that team felt the same way, I was not able to move into the new role because someone higher up did not want me there. I was given a vague excuse. The company is becoming more and more political and bureaucratic as it grows. I was originally drawn to Tableau because of the mission and the unique culture where people value creativity and agility. I had believed that it's a place where I could take initiative and act as an owner of the company. But Tableau today is starting to feel like corporate America. There's lots of hoops you have to jump through to get things done. I don't feel like my individual contributions are valued anymore.

Pros

Great customer-centric culture, leadership that's doing everything right, investing in & achieving huge growth, taking over the world. I've been here for 2 years and, for the first time in my life, am not planning my next career move; I'm here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Cons

None. There are growing pains (impossible to avoid when your company is doubling in size year over year for 10+ years), but all things considered those pains are handled very well. The extremely competent team is doing their best.
