A Nightmare Work Environment. Change the name to Titanic.

Pros

Positives are the benefits package (decent 401k, ESSP) and many of the co-workers are really nice people.

Cons

The work atmosphere or "culture" here is completely abysmal. Fueled by clueless senior management who are completely tuned-out to providing a functional /healthy work environment. Sr. Mgmt is completely inept at motivating their work force or understanding how to treat people decently. Sr. Management's bottom line is more $$'s & churn out the work fast-faster- faster. The vision is strictly making the Qtrly/Annual revenue amounts. They encourage shortcuts in product design and quality just to get the product out the door and the profits $$ in their pockets. As a result the engineer teams trying to produce the end product are never fully appreciated for their efforts. Truly a "Grade D" organization. I wouldn't recommend this employer to my worst enemy.

Pros

Decent salary and healthcare. People working in Engineering and on the floor are decent hardworking people who care about the company and their fellow workers.

Cons

Do not care about employees, disposable, use until they wear out. Never satisfied with output, put in long days everyday for product being moved overseas. Then when they are moved, they show you the door. Morale is lowest seen in 30 some years! Management does not get it, people losing livelihood to Mexico, India, and China and Management does not understand why they are upset and morale is so low.

Pros

Generally speaking, pay is fair, but if you enter a low salary it will never be brought up except by transferring to another division in order to receive a good increase. Benefits are better than the average company, or were when I was there. Work/life balance was very good. Occasionally you'd need to put in a lot of extra hours, but that was the exception and not the rule.

Cons

Performance review system is an absolute joke, as a manager of a department I hated the process and complete inability to rewards high performers. I was forced to penalize "good" people in order to rewards those that were "superior". And worse if you are paid more than others in your department for example, an engineer in a department of draftsmen, if you deserve a higher raise, the rest of the department has to suffer disproportionately in order for you to get the raise you deserve. It is an awful situation for a manager. The stress of continuous layoffs and rehiring is constant. You can never relax and feel your job is sucure, because it never is. HR is an extension of management, not a representative for the employees. There is no balance of the two at all. There are exceptional HR reps, but they are few and in my experience they leave the company quickly. Restructuring is constant. Senior management is a good ole boy network. You either get in with the right connections or you have no hope of management advancement.
