Pros

They did provide benefits to anyone who worked at least an AVERAGE of 20 hours a week including 401(K) and paid vacation. The hours were flexible and they do work around your schedule so it can be a good job for students.

Cons

If you end up with a bad manager it can be one of the worst places to work. Frequently people are promoted there who are either incompetent or extremely negative (or if you're really lucky, they are both.) In such a fast paced and high stress environment, having this type of management is extremely wearing on the mind, body, and soul. The compensation is not worth what they expect of their employees. While it may seem like it would be an easy job, it is a lot more involved than most people realize and due to recent changes within the company they expect more and allow less labor to do it with. In the end, you will put too much of yourself into the job and you will not get enough back. I had a horrible manager and it just crushed my spirit. They took something that I absolutely loved and wanted to do for the rest of my life and turned it in to something that I no longer even had the heart to care about. The employees often joke that Starbucks steals your soul and while it is partially a joke the company usually does end up crushing most people's spirit.

Pros

Lots of benefits, diverse coworkers, great customers and if you have a good boss, room for advancement and lots of recognition for positive results.

Cons

Changes made a couple years ago resulted in disrespectful upper management, terrible work life balance (especially for management), conflicting communication from upper management, lack of recognition for achievements, decreased benefits, biased management, decreased labor budget and hours and increased workload. I went from work 40-50 hrs a week to 60-80 as a result of this. I could go on and on. I dedicated my life to the company and the last few years was treated like garbage.

Pros

great company culture and sense of identity, great people throughout most of the organization, excellent training and customer focus, good work-life balance

Cons

shifting metrics and chasing numbers rather than long-term strategy, reluctance to embrace technology at the store level, pay and compensation are no longer competitive.
