Pros

fun and unique co-workers. free drinks. that's it.

Cons

Always understaffed even while huge promotions are going on. You're constantly given false hope of promoting just to get you to cover someone's shift. Starbucks loves to preach about mental health but the moment you're not feeling mentally available you get yelled at by upper management. You're getting paid $17 an hour for selling your soul and juggling the work of 3 other people. Sometimes it will just be you and a supervisor while the line is out the door and online mobile orders flow in like harry potters invitations to hogwarts. Hours also suck. Sure you're getting paid above minimum wage but unless its the summer or holiday season, you only get 12 hours a week. Managers make you feel awful for calling out when you're sick. If you request a certain availability managers will give you minimum amount of hours forcing you to go back to open availability. Everyone who works here hates it. The only reason to stay is for the fake "family" of crew you are working for. Starbucks also preaches about the quality of their coffee and customer connections. Everyday is a fake plastered smile and fast food quality coffee. The company doesn't care about us, they don't give us the a full staff to meet company values. We are doing the bare minimum to get paid and survive. Starbucks used to be the leader in pay, now anywhere else is paying the same or more without having to handcraft drinks or deal with the rudest customers on the planet.

Great in theory, not in reality

Pros

-coworkers will probably be the best part of your day, -making drinks is super fun - benefits are actually pretty decent (you need to take advantage of them!)

Cons

-the customers are the worst (obviously this varies depending on the store) and take advantage of you at every turn. -Stores in my area are constantly understated because everyone is burnt out from this job, and call off constantly. -There is little to no support from higher ups, even if they try to help, and the company expects way too high standards of us while not giving the support much needed. -people are quitting faster than they are being hired, leaving us with short staffing and newbies (it takes months to actually get the hang of working here) -tends to be hard to promote (tend to outside hire instead of internally promoting) -fairly easy to transfer stores (although that comes with its own set of problems)

Pros

The company has great benefits, even for part-time employees, as well as fairly competitive pay for the industry. The hours can be somewhat flexible, but this has varied greatly under different managers I've worked for. In this role, you get a small insight into certain aspects of how businesses are run because there are opportunities to manage inventory, learn about safe cash handling, coaching and training, and auditory compliance (health inspector or third party audit.)

Cons

This is a difficult job because of the stress level. Generally, you are in charge of a store in the absence of a store manager, and all the problems tend to fall in your direction. You have to juggle many tasks every day such as delegating and deploying partners (employees) in the most efficient manner, dealing with customer complaints, dealing with various security issues, tending to/calling in repairs, all while there is a relentless influx of customers. It is very difficult to do perfectly every time, although it is satisfying when accomplishing it. The other big con of this role is dealing with disciplinary issues. You may coach baristas if they are doing something wrong, but you may not issue any punitive measures. You get all of the responsibility of a manager, but none of the authority of a manager.
