Pros

Starbucks has a very good total pay package, and it is generally a respectful and flexible environment. Not only does it offer medical, dental, and vision benefits, Starbucks also has perks such as free drinks while working, a free pound of coffee each week, up to five weeks of vacation, accrued sick time, six paid holidays, two personal days, tuition reimbursement, 401k, and yearly stock share grants. The partners at Starbucks are treated pretty well. For a food service job, it is definitely still on the upper crust in terms of taking care of the partners. It's a good place for personal growth and development.

Cons

The only thing constant is change. This wouldn't be bad except it's not a philosophy Starbucks has always utilized. Until recently, Starbucks prided itself on its Guiding Principles--the fact that they were listed in order of importance. Now we've come to a point where growing big while staying small has become too overwhelming and our direction as a company, our whole philosophy in fact, has changed. It's not here's the goal and if you don't quite make it we'll talk about how do get better. It's here's the goal and if you don't make it you will be replaced. Again, that would be fine if it had always been that way. But it's a new day at Starbucks.

Pros

Great opportunity to earn benefits while in school, great product, good atmosphere, free pound of coffee each week!

Cons

No visibile or clear strategic direction, zero communication from the top down, lack of effective ability to manage through simple processes, antiquated systems, lost site of the vision and mission statement, eveyone is running around making decisions with no alignment to the business or impact on the customer.

Pros

Starbucks is a friendly and non-hostile place to work for the most part. It is important to be more social than skilled at making coffee. It is more of a people business rather than a coffee business. Although many say that Starbucks needs to go back to basics, I think the food direction and more diverse appeal is a good approach. Be careful, all the free coffee and food will get you fat, though!

Cons

Often there are very early morning hours, and the job requires significant training and experience to achieve proficiency. Also, it is easy to feel the minutiae of a large corporation. Often things intended to streamline or improve something end up backfiring and it take a long time for bad things to be changed.
