Pros

There are offices everywhere so many people have the option to relocate. When your company gets acquired, they let you keep your same salary, and there's good benefits and 401k match.

Cons

You go from a small firm of having high status to suddenly being the small step child. There are too many hands in the pot and everyone thinks the other person will take care of it. Theres a ton of miscommunication. Theres the fear of things changing dramatically from the great benefits you had at the small firm to now going by the rule book of Stantec. Lets see, I get blocked on the internet trying to access sites that I need to do my job all the time... that's fun. You lose a lot of the culture that you had when you were a small company, mostly because a ton of employees will jump ship quickly after being acquired.

Pros

Cool downtown location and good benefits . The PM's are generally good and upper mgmt is supportive.

Cons

Can sometimes feel like a cog in a wheel rather than part of the wheel. It would be great to focus on more face to face communication.

Pros

Potentially interesting and large projects Intelligent Staff Variety of service lines within the company

Cons

Immense pressure to be at over 80% utilized. If you are not, you are told to take time off (or use vacation) to keep the numbers up. Budgets for projects can be very tight (to stay competitive) so you end up working on your own time (e.g. for free) just to get the job done as they don't want write-offs. Upper management not in the same office as their teams, have no idea of what is actually going on in the local marketplaces - huge disconnect. Constantly buying up smaller firms, every six months there seems to be a "restructuring" (layoffs).
