Pros

They offer good health insurance

Cons

Less than a month after my engineering firm was bought by Stantec everything started going downhill. We lost half of our architect clients, as Stantec is an A/E firm and we were now seen as competition. The individual managing the principals at our firm was now an architect and had no idea how the engineering world worked. Our billing rates went up and as such, our fees did as well, making our remaining clients frustrated. As an employee you are given a utilization target and if you fall below it then you are chastised. They fire engineers who have been with the firm for years, and promote accountants that are brand new to the firm, as the only thing that upper management cares about is making money, not creating a good product. There is no loyalty as your bosses have no say anymore and are only waiting their mandatory 3 years in order to get their big payout at which point they will leave

Pros

A lot of good, talented, friendly people. Some interesting projects completed by the local office. Lots of interesting projects and services across the company. Most approachable CEO I've met. Salary could be better, but the benefits package was great until they scaled back in 2016 to cut costs.

Cons

No real career development options, long hours (basically every day) to meet deadlines, no support from management regarding work-life balance or stress (basically told to just "deal with it"). Felt like being in school again and frequently being assigned to work with someone who doesn't share your passion, work ethic or desire to do produce a quality product. So you're carrying the bulk of the project on your shoulders.

Pros

-They'll hire anybody! Great for those of us with a shameful GPA and limited extracurricular activities in college. -Fun people to work with (at my location) -They hire a lot of women. So far there's no indication that they're being harassed, either (at my location) -It's very hard to get fired. I'm not saying that you won't get called out for screwing up, but you should feel safe about signing an apartment with a lease.

Cons

-Medical insurance coverage is below industry average. You're looking to lose at least ~$100 from each paycheck if you're single (~$200 for married). -They're a giant company without the infrastructure to support it yet. Stantec is currently interested in buying as many Civil Engineering companies they can get their hands on. This means extra paperwork, delayed paperwork, and lost paperwork. -In California, your employment contract is at-will (can be fired at any minute) AND has a 6 month non-competition clause (can't work for a direct competitor for 6 months after leaving). You should be extra sure that you're happy with your job and salary, because you're now a slave to the Stantec system.
