Overall culture: valuing power & prestige over people

Pros

– getting to work/learn with brilliant, curious, passionate people (students, staff and faculty) across varied backgrounds/fields – pay is better than most other universities in the Bay Area – lots of enrichment opportunities

Cons

– overall culture is centered on concentrations of power, prestige-seeking and elitism as perpetuated by many/most leaders, students, faculty and alumni; values are institutional neutrality (at the expense of having any moral conscience) and blanket "innovation" that mainly benefits corporations, the elite, and its brand – aversion to truth-telling, transparency, accountability or shared decision-making – professional staff workers (different from faculty) are largely treated as second-rate members of the institution that are highly dispensable
