Pros

The work environment is slow. The schedule is fairly routine of 9 to 5. If you have a role that is worthwhile, this can be the place for you to retire.

Cons

The values are well defined, but no one seems to follow it. It is more of a lip service that actually believe in them. Culture is very hierarchical. Accountability does not exist. Promotions are not based on ability and accomplishment. Culture tend to be very secretive with no transparency.

Pros

Health benefits, name recognition, money for equipment, paid holidays. You will work with brilliant and dedicated physicians. People come from around the world to check out programs at Stanford. Employees working in areas outside the school of medicine seem much happier than those inside it.

Cons

Sociopathic managers, poor salary, no advancement, poor work-life balance. Many managers answer to essentially no one. Micromanagement and nasty emails are rampant. Working harder or doing better work does not result in better treatment. Turnover in my department was over 50% during my time there.

It's wonderful to be part of a thriving community composed of students, professors, and professional employees

Cons

Very much stuck in the past when it comes to technology and the IT management there doesn't seem to understand much in the way of human relations.
