Pros

Great quality of life, terrific opportunities to engage with the best and the brightest. There's a strong sense of community here. Plus, it's pretty recession-proof. There are no shareholders to please. Working in education makes me feel good about my job. The university pays for commuter options, while other benefits are generous. I can work from home, too. My immediate manager is awesome.

Cons

The university administration is somewhat paternalistic and guarded, seemingly too mindful of their image. Leaders in information technology can be too insular, and there's little outreach, education and communication between IT Services and campus community. The university's commitment to IT security seems spotty.

Pros

Great benefits. Beautiful campus. A real community instead of a corporate culture. Work with people from a broad range of backgrounds, ages, cultures, and interests. Working in support of the community instead of the shareholders. Good work-life balance. Good opportunities to work for different departments. Good opportunities for professional development (through classes and conferences).

Cons

Salaries are low compared to industry. There are no stock options, but there is generous matching into the retirement plan. You pay for parking, and close parking is expensive and cheap parking is far away.

Pros

Stanford is good at Research and Teaching. Hence, if you are not a researcher or a teacher, you do not have the work pressure. SO you would have much Personal Time. The benefit is fine, even the salary is lower than industry. Additional, you got chances to audit good classes for free

Cons

Low pay comparing with industry
