      Pros

      Great place to do research work, especially from an engineer's perspective. Culture of openness is good, and allows people to share a lot of information. Very beneficial for the thesis work.

      Cons

      Engineering department is a big place. Sometimes, especially at first, it feels impersonal, but when you get to know how things work, it's a great place with a lot of smart people.

      Pros

      Stanford has some of the smartest people in the world. Spending more than 5 years on a PhD is worth then every time spent in the University.

      Cons

      Expensive city. Even though the average income for RA's is higher than the National average..it is too small to maintain a decent lifestyle in this part of the country.
