Pros

I like it here and that Spartan is growing very fast, so that does mean there's a lot to do and you can grow. There's not red tape or protocol and if you are a go-getter it could be good for your career. The brand is really cool. The community is what makes this place special. Sad that the company is very different from the values that it talks about to racers.

Cons

There's a serious bias towards the male leadership. It's super chummy and unless you're one of them and a man, there is a ceiling. I have heard someone in leadership mention and make comments about a female worker's race and dating life, using slurs. It's pretty typical for jokes or comments to be made about an employee's personal life and for that to turn into some nasty locker room chat. The company is not being guided clearly. It's jumping from one fire drill to another. No one is steering the ship and we always joke that it's a sinking ship. Which feels not that far from the truth.

Some good people but toxic environment

Pros

There are some great, fun people that work here. Good location in the city. Catered lunch a couple days a week. Free races. You get lots of swag and free clothing, shoes, etc.

Cons

The pay is humiliating. Upper management is a joke. Certain people are in positions that they have absolutely no business being in, and they only got there because they pushed, shoved, or manipulated their way into those roles. 10 days of PTO is all you get, and even then, you are made to feel incredibly guilty for ANY time taken out of the office, whether it's PTO, taking a long lunch for a doctor's appointment, and you can forget about working from home. Even during the blizzards, you were expected to make it into the office, whether or not your trains were running, or it was a dangerous drive to work, no matter how long it took you. Extremely inefficient if you ask me. The CEO is completely unrealistic and considers it a privilege for you to work for the company, and doesn't understand why more employees aren't falling asleep at their desks from working 20 hour days. In addition to being expected to stay late every night at the office, if you work a race weekend, you can expect to work 20 hour days on 3 hours of sleep per night (or less), and you will only get ONE comp day for a 40 hour work weekend. And again, you will be guilt-tripped if you take it. Overall, extremely toxic, demeaning, demotivating environment, and you will never be promoted or moved up unless you're a bully and shove yourself in there. It's a shame, because there are some great people there, but they will continue to lose those people if they don't make some changes.

Pros

-Travel reimbursement -Good health care, dental, 401k, etc

Cons

-Managers are incompetent (don't know how to manage a team) -Under payed -Under valued -Terrible communication between HQ (Boston) and the boots on the ground -1099 contractors forced to work longer hours (illegal) -Doesn't want to spend money for improvement -When problems arise, easy/practical solutions are ignored -Per diem/ day is enough to get you a bite of a bagel and maybe sip of coffee The expectations this company has on their employees does not pay enough for the long hours and whether it's rain, snow or shine, the event will go on.
