Pros

- A lot of responsibility is placed on you, giving you ability to make a large impact if you choose to pursue that - You get to work on cool hardware (even with your own hands!) - Your colleagues, generally, are smart, driven folk - Work is exciting and launching regularly makes it even better - The amount of change occuring means you'll always have something to do - Good, cheap food and free coffee make life at work easy

Cons

- I've noticed a dangerous culture overcoming manufacturing/production as production scales. Sometimes you'll feel immense pressure to work harder & faster, with not much sympathy unless you have an understanding lead/manager. Knowing how to handle these situations can make or break your experience. - I've had situations where I've had to explain what I did during a day, hour by hour, as management outside of my group questioned why I wasn't helping them. As an engineer this is not a healthy environment to work in. - Production leadership takes on very little responsibility and is largely incapable of solving the majority of problems. You'll bear the burden of most of this gap, and will not be recognized for it. - Compensation is low for the region, low for the responsibility compared to other positions internally, and low for the hour expectation (weekends and overtime are not compensated) - You'll feel pressured to work longer hours, although most people only work long hours to make up for the lack of structure in their day which is actually counterproductive

Pros

Incredible mission - you'll live the rest of your life known as the guy/gal who worked at SpaceX Smart people - there will be blockheads in the mix, but the majority of employees at SpaceX are the best of the best Thrill of the launch - nothing beats the camaraderie of watching a launch from behind the glass of Mission Control. You can't get that at Google/FaceBook/Apple/Boeing/name-your-company

Cons

You can easily lose yourself in the minutiae. Everyone wants to do their best and "impress Elon". Don't fall into that quicksand trap. Do your best. Admit that you don't know something fully - it will be explained to you.

Pros

Wake up everyday excited to go to work Work with the brightest and most driven/resourceful engineers in the country with an average age in the 20s Have the ability to influence change throughout the entire company if willing to put in the initiative Company allows employees to be self driven and take on projects/set priorities on their own Build rockets and spacecrafts. Enough said. People at SpaceX are focused on changing the world, not their own personal benefit. Hours are flexible as long as you get your work done. Lots of small benefits that really add up. I learned twice as much in 1 year at SpaceX than 2 years at my previous job. Hard work and creativity is rewarded, laziness and inefficiency is eliminated. Peer reviews are heard by management.

Cons

Work life balance (I would rather be excited and challenged 60 hours a week than bored for 40 though) A company filled with the top 1% of minds in the world will carry some strong egos. Design/R&D groups follow Elon's values much more closely than production, which has more of a militaristic chain of command feel Base salary per hour is much lower than competitors for engineers. This is offset by the "cool" factor and stock program.
