Excellent opportunity for improving French language skills in a commercial legal environment
Pros
As Paris Office junior you are hired by Simmons & Simmons for six months, starting either from January-July or July-December. This is a fully French speaking law firm so you have to be confident with your French speaking abilities to apply for the role. You usually work alternating weeks with the other hired office junior (which is really great as there are two of you so you will never feel alone or overwhelmed with the workload as you can both support each other). One week you’ll be on reception with the other receptionists, greeting clients, booking meetings, delivering mail to the lawyers, helping to set up video conferences etc, and the second week you will be in the litigation/life sciences department helping to sort and read/file documents related to a pharmaceutical professional negligence case, which was pretty interesting. There’s printing/binding jobs you might get asked to do as well. If you’re interested in commercial law in the future, it isn’t the job a trainee at the firm would be doing but it still gives you pretty good exposure working for an extended amount of time at a commercial law firm, not to mention networking and building of contacts. The pay is pretty good as far as internships go in France, since most will pay you €500, but it was €1,500 a month and the firm pays for your monthly navigo card so you have no metro/transport fees. They also give you €100 worth of 'ticket restaurant' every month which are vouchers valid in both supermarkets and restaurants. The staff look after you really well, and the initial training you receive is great to help you settle into the job. Overall would definitely recommend this role in central Paris for your year abroad.
Cons
Would not say there are any cons to working here.
