Pros

very less work, no accountability (for people who do not like to take ownership)

Cons

NO respect for employees, NO career path or job stability - keep jumping like a monkey every 4 years, full of sycophants, they will ensure that you become a jack of all and master of none, thus becoming redundant for any other company. No culture and No values - will do exactly opposite of what they claim

Pros

Great benefits. Salaries are good (they used to be better). Flexible working available. If you are someone who is looking for a safe, average salary this is your place. If you want to stick with a very small piece of something big and nevery become an expert on anything, do apply. For new joiners: Graduate Scheme used to be top class. Now it is a collection of 2nd class millenials with low salaries and an extremely bad structured scheme. I have not met a single happy graduate in the last 6 years. Save yourself sometime and start working in a field you field passionate about.

Cons

Mediocre HR. The vast majority of the people do not really know what is it that they are doing. I have been working for the company for the last 16 years and I have seen how a great company goes down as one of the less exciting places to be on earth. Innovators, entrepeneurs, knowledge seekers are going to be swallowed by a very conservative corporate culture where guys that do not even know how to turn off an iphone are managing IT departmens or innovation innitiatives. For new joiners: They will tell you there are overseas opportunities, there are none. I am a senior manager in the company and even at that level, expat positions (or short term international assignments "STIA" are almost non-existent). For experienced hires: You will join with lots of promises being made, but reality is that you will be stuck in the same "job group" for 4 - 5 years when the average Shell employee is moving up the ladder every 2- 3 years. Once you are due for a promotion, they will trigger a "re-organization" and you will recieve a redundancy letter that will (mentally) force you to say yes to any internal offer they will throw at you. Be aware of HR. Really.

Pros

1. Brand Name- You are working for one of the biggest brands in the world 2. Salary package- Most employees come from service companies and the packages offered at Shell (IT Hub) are easily 1.5 times if not more. 3. HSSE- The company really emphasizes on your safety. Sometimes, it is overwhelming.

Cons

1. When the Shell IT Hub was conceptualized, the only thing on the minds of Senior Management was targets. Targets in terms of people employed per month/quarter/year. Due to this, brisk hiring began and resulted in lower than expected quality of employees joining. When these employees were given work, they failed to perform due to their inability and lack of quality. Such employees' probation period was extended and then most of them were fired. This resulted in 2 things: a. A bad name for Shell that the company believes in Hire and Fire. b. A dip in the targets, resulting in faster recruitment, again compromising quality and the aforementioned vicious circle continues. 2. Most of the workforce joined from service providers. They are hungry for onsite. Shell IT Hub being the low cost solution for IT capability, travel is severely restricted. This mismatch in expectations has led to employee satisfaction taking a big dip. 3. Lack of Work from home option. The management cites the rulebook of Indian SEZ Act where it is mentioned that delivery is supposed to be from within the SEZ premises. However, we all have worked all our career in various companies based out of different SEZ locations and had never faced such stringent WFH policies. To add to it, any WFH should be approved by manager and HR, as if we are kids. Totally unacceptable. 4. Huge parity can be felt between the office comforts, standards and policies of Shell Global vs Shell IT Hub. This step motherly treatment is definitely noticed by the employees. 5. Unique salary structure. On paper, the CTC is huge. But all components are taxable. Even components provided by the Govt for tax exemption are not given. Ex no conveyance, no travel allowance. Stupid structure with an equally stupid management not agreeing to change it is disappointing. 6. No car lease policy. 7. Supposed lock-in period of 4 years per role and job-group. Though not followed stringently globally, this policy is followed only in Shell IT Hub. 8. Bad insurance policy for self and family. The bare minimum cover amount is provided to employees. Even service companies give better insurance. Insurance for parents has to be 'bought' at exorbitant rates. Ex 44k for a 5 lac cover. Truly pathetic.
