Pros

Shell business (real end users) are always understanding. But IT folks like product managers, CC leads/ managers are not and will make life miserable with long hours, micromanagement and no value to IT skill.

Cons

Recognition are always biased and no IT skill growth, stagnated roles once it reaches JG4 for most of folks as later in JG4, its all about ppt and politics. So next job progression is just a dream.

Pros

People you work with are mostly great Workload is manageable Big name brand - opens doors when you leave

Cons

Going there later in your career as an ‘experienced hire’ is a mistake - the ONLY thing that counts at Shell is how many years you’ve worked at Shell Expertise is viewed with scepticism & you will be working for leaders who don’t have any idea what they are leading Most people are smart but generalists & you’ll get rusty very quickly if you go there

Pros

1) Safety First.. Safety is of utmost importance at any workplace, Shell does invest time and resources in advocating this motto ( most of the O&G companies believe in Safety).

Cons

1) politically apolitical... IT Leadership in India is the worst I have seen, Diversity is not a belief, leader's have ridiculed the spirit of diversity by promoting lobbyists who have nothing but to promote their own brand as being brand ambassadors of diversity and inclusion at the cost of some good talent 2) Servant Leaders Vs Intellectually challenged Managers... IT leadership in India and across the globe in Shell is mostly crippled by this syndrome of misplace arrogance. Coterie of old timers have built an ecosystem, that discourages innovation, honesty and ability to change. 3) Different Yardsticks ... Racism? In my career, i haven't seen an organization where managers ( unfit to be called leaders) from the west have used opportunities to belittle staff in India by using abrasive words. I will have to blame the staff in Bangalore who are so subservient to such attitude... 4) Bigotry at is best... I have worked with managers who are nothing but bigots and blow their trumpet of achievements ( self proclaimed, false, misrepresented achievements), conniving is an understatement to describe for my immediate and skip level leadership. 0 contribution to value creation. 5) plagiarism at its peak... subzero level of ethics demonstrated when it comes to giving credit to ideas. Reason for setting up SBO IT Bangalore was to bring in fresh talent and ideas , however the due to inertia of old timers in Houston, London and Rijswijk very soon SBO IT will become the graveyard of idea and talent. Leadership in India is busy with their own agenda of cutting down each other's corner and lining up in queue to the leaders who think they are the chosen ones to indulge and believe in leadership tourism.
