Pros

Talented and amazing people that bust their butt (unfortunately, do not get recognized enough)

Cons

AWFUL systems with teams that can't support them. IT runs the bank (with their poor systems and practices) Does not promote a risk minded culture. Poor leadership and management. Unethical practices. Weak recruiting process and placement. People in roles that clearly aren't qualified. Micromanagers. No dress code. Bullying. Nothing gets done. There's a clash between the ones that want to do the right thing and people that don't-- seems like some people are part of a mafia and there are cover ups with issues and problems. How can you fix anything without understanding the root cause and holding certain teams/ people accountable? Lack of accountability

Pros

Great at promoting within the company. If you are willing to work hard there is alot of room for growth

Cons

Senior Management changes every 2 years, and as a result employees are yo-yo'ed back and forth between conflicting stategies. Although clear communication is attempted it's very rarely effectively conveyed. Technology is very archaic and the customer usually pays the price. The incentive has recently changed for the worse. Whereas Santander previously paid higher than industry average, they are now paying well below. To add insult to injury, upper management constantly reminds you how great the new plan is and how much money you are going to make ( as if none of understanding basic math) Morale is extremely low and the general consensus is that the company is trying to push out its employees so they can replace them with someone at a lower pay, even if it means less production. It's obvious that the company cares nothing about its employees. There are too many banks paying more than what Santander has to offer without all this nonsense. Banks that not only have a recognizable and respected brand in the US, but who are leading the way in technology instead of trailing 10 years behind.

Pros

The work life balance is reasonable. That is the sole "pro" that could be attributed to this company.

Cons

If you only read this first line - don't even contemplate working here. It will drive you to depression and hating your life, it really is that bad. The main issue is that the company is full of dead wood and dinosaurs. The business model was to take over lots of different banks and merge them to the San brand. This has left an incredible amount of incompetent people within the company, often in senior positions. I see the issue...it would cost a lot of money to make these people redundant, but it is what would be required to properly move forward. HR are a complete waste of space, the pay is relatively poor and the employee perks are essentially non-existent. You don't even get free hot drinks, and they seemed so proud when they stopped charging for hot water...! Oh, but then there are no fridges or milk so this is rendered fairly useless anyway. The graduate scheme isn't that at all - using the word "scheme" is a complete disgrace. No training, awful work and no career prospects or guidance. I cannot stress enough how choosing Santander as a graduate option is pretty much career suicide before you've even got going. If you do work there as a grad, get out as soon as you can - start applying elsewhere from day 1. I could go on but I've wasted enough of my life with this place - it really was the worst time of my life, and I'm certainly not alone in thinking this. I just hope this will persuade anyone thinking of getting a job here not to!
