mRNA Center of Excellence is Toxic

Pros

Excellent 401K match, long term stock incentives, good office space.

Cons

The mRNA Center of Excellence is run by toxic Translate Bio management and employees brought over from the acquisition. They have a "good ol' boys club" where they bully and harass other employees with impunity because they protect each other, from upper management all the way down. The only thing that matters is "were/are you a TBIO employee, and for how long?", the longer you worked for TBIO the more you are protected from consequences and promoted via nepotism rather than merit. Managers punch down on talent, throw reports under the bus, and office politics are valued over science. Management is also aware of employee burnout problems caused by 50-70 hour work weeks, but does nothing to fix it and instead doubles down, oh and they don't reward the effort either.

Pros

Pay is good for the immediate area (The Poconos). Not competitive for the Mid-Atlantic Region. Products are important and are valuable to society. Benefits are good but have been deteriorating. Global company

Cons

Management has forgotten its most important resource - its employees. There is no real long term planning. It is just cut the cost of goods. HR is useless and does not support the management or the individual employee. There is a definite Franco-centric focus. There is virtually no opportunity for positions in Europe for North Americans but the door swings very wide for the Europeans coming to North America. The Quality organization in particular has been floundering for several years with no real direction and stability. It is difficult to rely upon them for consistent support and direction. Pathetic raises and bonuses are becoming less reliable which use to offset the pathetic raises. There has been a substantial turnover of staff and many talented people have left. Management and HR are doing nothing to resolve the issue and stop the hemorraging. No real opportunity for advancement if you are North American.

Pros

In general the teams here are very good and there is a lot of ambition to change how things are done to move faster and more efficiently. The execution of that is better said then done, but the want is there. The benefits are about what you could expect for big Pharma (average vacation, 9% 401k match (150% of 6%), okay healthcare, good parental leave for the US, average bonus structure for the industry (dependent on level and personal & company performance).

Cons

Pay. The pay here is very, very low compared to the industry. I cannot stress enough how low it is and how much HR will try and gaslight you into believing it is competitive. The pay ranges are absurdly wide. Every team is underfunded (don't blame your boss, they have no options). If you are coming from another company negotiate as much as possible because once you are employed the only real raises (even if you are a high performer) you will get are for promotions. Yearly raises are non-existent. What budgets managers get from HR for yearly raises get spent on keeping exceptionally low paid team members from falling off the pay scale.
