Progression for middle class and white

Pros

35 hours working week, extra holiday per year

Cons

You only get progression if you are white and it comes even quicker if you are middle class. Throwing huge amounts of money at suppliers and contractors without investing in internal teams (even though publicly they say they do). Management disconnected to what is happening on the ground. Lack of diversity in management positions.

Thank you for giving us this feedback and sharing how you felt with us. We are really disappointed to hear that this is your view but can understand why you might feel that way. Diversity is one of our values as a Group and we are consciously working to encourage applications from black or minority ethnic candidates, as well as women, members of the LGBTQ community and people with disabilities. We want Sanctuary to be a place where everyone’s face fits, because everyone is welcome and everyone can succeed. Thank you for taking the time to give us this feedback and please rest assured we are continually working to improve our diversity.

We’re delighted that you feel fulfilled in your role! Regarding the concerns you have identified, it would be great to be able to understand more about these either via a chat with your line manager or HR representative. We do appreciate that at times change can seem to come about quickly, and whilst this is often influenced by external factors we are responding to, we always endeavour to talk to staff about the reasons for change and engage with our established Staff Council network.

Very out of touch with staff

Pros

You gain 1 day annual leave for each year of service (most companies now do this so not such a pro)

Cons

Where to start... Bullying attitude of management, some managers have only got promotion due to their face fitting and not actually what they have to offer. One of the biggest issues that has started is “passing the buck to a different team” higher management like to blame different departments for bad figures not actually taking responsibility for their own bad management and performance of their team. Staff do not want to work for management as it is very clear that they have their “favourites”. Restructure is a way they like to change things, however it doesn’t work. Last restructure removed a whole department and passed to a central team, who do not have the training, skills or opportunity to actually do the work, so it’s just left and not worried about. Then when a director mentions it, the staff are pulled from their usual job and told they need to focus on this project, however no training provided so they don’t know what to do and then it’s the staffs fault when it goes wrong.
