Pros

* I was offered $13K more than the average mngr's salary, due to my background, which was still frightfully low... but I was in a bind & had to take the job. As a note: I gave 2-wks notice after 2-wks work.

Cons

* Everything & I mean everything. This is a job you should take if you need a job NOW & don't plan on staying longer than 6-mos, seriously. Or, if you're young & need to pad your resume. But, don't stay long... the negativity of employees & mngmt eats away at you. * Salary is incredibly low for the hours & volume of work. * Store Mngrs must work at least 45-hrs/wk, but it's really far longer (at very least, add in another 1-1/2 hrs/day to your 9-hr day for your 30-min lunch, 30-min cashing out & 30-min opening), as you need to come in on days off if someone is out sick, doesn't show up, quits, is late or forgot store keys. I don't care how old you are or what job you're used to... as a mngr, your brain will be fried at the end of each day. * 30-min lunch, which is almost impossible to take. The stores prohibit leaving through the back door by the office (that's instant dismissal, btw, should "they" ever want to get rid of you), so you must leave through the front door... try getting out without being stopped multiple times by customers. * Each store will differ, but have you ever honestly seen happy employees inside any Sally's anywhere across America? I haven't. I had to fire 2 employees in my 1st week; encountered severe jealousy as the others felt they should have been promoted, rather than them hiring an outsider... me... which prompted the other 2 to give notice; had to deal with a lot of theft, from inside & outside. * Schedules are made based on hours given for store sales, meaning you may be severely understaffed as you can only give 20-hrs or so for each PT employee. They'll clamor several times/day, everyday for extra hours. Can't blame them, but the store has only so many to parse out, they'll always unhappy about low pay, low hours, won't stay long & don't care while there because they feel they get little for their time put in. * All the work is done by those in the store, including scrubbing the bathroom daily, washing the floors with an old fashioned wring mop & strong, asthma inducing chemicals, washing the outside windows, bank runs throughout the day for cash or depositing (not necessarily bad, but if short staffed or the only one in the store, it's impossible to do) & the weekly change around of shelving & product placement... it's hard to get it done on time with such understaffing & low motivated employees. * My store was an utter mess, employee-wise. After speaking to area mngrs, I found out that that was normal for all of them. After 2-wks, I felt it wasn't worth it, mainly as the pay was inferior for what they expected from me. My brain was also on freeze mode after such long days with little break. I was up at 4am to get in by 8am & never got home 'til 10pm. Lost 1-lb/day for 2-wks due to stress & no appetite. * You're on your feet & walking all day. That's not an issue for me, but it could be for some in very busy stores. * Customers continually complain that they pay too much to their hairdressers, they want color to plop on their heads to save $$$ & in most cases, are not capable of doing it themselves. Many return over & over because they don't get the pro results they wanted. Of course, they'll blame you. * Worst of all, Sally's doesn't hire hairdressers. They only care about sales & feel "you can learn hairdressing on the job"! Really?! No... ya can't! I am one, but the others gave out wrong advice & recommendations all day long, so much so that I thought I'd faint from how much incorrect info was flying about. It was overwhelming & I had a very resistant staff, who didn't warm to being corrected or guided with genuine cosmetology info. * There are so many more, but I'll stop with the above. It was a thankless, exhausting job, working with poorly educated, lowly motivated, cutthroat girls/women, who operated off of base instincts, like jealousy, prejudice & viciousness. * Please Note: I did not list my actual location for privacy.
