Associate software developer (Java)
Pros
Flexible hours No stress Generous WFH (8 days a month)
Cons
Poor pay above junior level (and junior pay varies as well); newcomers with no experience sometimes out earn their more experienced colleagues - loyalty is not rewarded No flexibility when it comes to contracts (only UoP) Tax deduction due to transferring copyrights has been suspended indefinitely Outsourced infrastructure, ancient operations practices (it's meant to change, but it's going to take many years) Very heavy processes with lots of paperwork; takes weeks to release something; sometimes more to make a simple change in the database A lot of restructuring going on Below standard facilities (slow internet, one lift, some chairs are falling apart, unreliable HVAC) All infrastructure is located in the US, remote debugging with long round trips is not fun. Some people only do maintenance work on systems older than they are
