Pros

At the very top is the benefits package, especially the healthcare. Sabre pays for a VIP package at a private medical center for every employee who must only cover the tax. I've been to a number of specialized medical examinations and I never had to pay a penny. Sabre is an immensely family-friendly company with events and bonuses for parents and their children. The working hours are very flexible. The technologies that dominate at Sabre are fairly modern. Most of them are around Java and C++ but I know people who quit after being forced to work e.g. with ancient COBOL.

Cons

Career path for QA engineers is quite limited. After reaching a senior level most of them become development supervisors leaving their QA expertise behind. I've heard from other teams that working overtime, working during weekends and PTO cancellation is a common practice, which is clearly the result of poor management. Fortunately I haven't experienced anything like that in my previous projects. There is not enough space on the car park and the office itself (Krakow R&D office). Many employees are forced to share their seats with other folks, possibly seating at different places every day. Not to mention the time wasted for looking for an unoccupied desk and setting up the equipment every morning. Other than that it is a typical US corporation with fairly bureaucratic procedures and corporate overhead such as countless all-hands meetings.

Pros

Pros: - Great people to work with - airline industry veterans, well qualified employees - Interesting products - Sabre has a broad suite of solutions catering to the airline industry Most of the products solve hard problems and hence it's very good work for employees looking for intellectually stimulating work - Flexible work culture

Cons

Cons: - No visibility in terms of career progression in the bangalore office. " Why should I stay in Sabre Bangalore for 5 years?" - that question is not answered. Many people stick around for 2-3 years, gain good experience and get out - Job titles are evolving as the company grows - please negotiate your designation properly, The career progression is typically very slow here compared to other companies. So the mapping between old job title and new job title is invariably a disappointment to many new joinees - Sabre hires pretty smart people who do contribute well to the business, but when it comes to time or appraisal time, "we haven't met our results" and so you are getting squat - Poor project management practices - You can be pretty sure the first deadline is not met, mostly because an unrealistic deadline was set without thinking about resource availability - Lots of attrition, so there are a number of new managers who themselves don't know company policies too well - Lots of travel but no stipend or per diem, just expense based on actuals - While Sabre has a number of solutions, not all the solutions are "customer ready" but are still rolled out anyway, bugs and all
