Pros

Everyone bangs on about the training being so good but really the course content ( for surface well test and DST at least) was very poor. There is a big focus on training though and they have a reputation for being good so it looks good on your cv.

Cons

very little time off, too much focus on HSE not enough on the actual practicalities of the work. people are considered competent as long as they have "ticked the boxes" it is not difficult to get the boxes ticked. lack of fairness regarding promotions an " if your face fits " scenario. corporate structure changes very frequently stereotypical schlumberger employee is brain washed and an doesnt know how things "really work" there is some truth to this stereotype

Pros

great continuing education opportunities challenging environment, won't get bored leaders in oilfield service with great technology many opportunities for advancement

Cons

They talk the talk about caring about families, and how if you work hard and show results you will be rewarded...but the reality is very different. Many long term, loyal and productive employees are cast out just to save money - especially if they are approaching their 15 year mark so they won't have to pay out pension. Hours are insane and there is absolutely NO work/family balance. Many unqualified people seem to move up and up, while others get cast away without a moment's thought. If you are sticking around for that "long term payout" of pension and benefits...beware, as the closer you are to that point, the more at risk you are of being let go when they "reorganize" yet again!

Pros

Excellent training. Fair pay. Travel opportunity. Hard work and dedication to safety are the ways to advance at SLB. Knowledge sharing is key.

Cons

Tough on home life. Too reliant on college education for advancement. High turnover of good middle management personell, poached by clients & competitors.
