Pros

Good training programs Great field exposure Job bonuses are very good after 1.5 years working (as an engineer) Ability to travel and see the world

Cons

Working hours are sometimes long Some segments are better than others; choose wisely Structured carreer development plan can be a pain to follow sometimes Base salary isn't very competitive until 3+ years experience with the company

Pros

A lot of chances to travel around the world; they do spend a lot of money on training employee; flat structure for engineers, little politics for non-management population

Cons

Recent trend is less days-off and vacation, sometimes engineer has to work two months consecutively without one day off and it is very hard to accept. Oilfield is always a high-risk working place, some engineer has to deal with radioactive sources which is not good for health, especially for women.
