Pros

Schlumberger invest millions in training employees to be the best in the oil industry. I benefited from an excellent fixed step technical / leadership training program, which really boosted my career. Lots of travel. I lived in 6 different countries over 3 years! I don't know of many companies that provide an internationally mobile career like Schlumberger

Cons

Work life balance is poor if you have a family. Lots of intense work and not enough time to relax. I was constantly on the move (I didn't mind much as I was young, single and eager to learn back then) Schlumberger is renowned for its hire n fire approach during down turns. They do not waste time in cutting off employees during rough times and end up losing some of their best people to the competition as a result.

Pros

14 days on, 7 days off makes for a good work/life balance if you can handle being away for 14 days. Lots of responsibility, great training, and great pay.

Cons

Lifestyle job. The job defines your life which can be hard with a family and kids

Pros

Schlumberger is a great company to work for when you are trying to get into the industry. I entered the industry with no experience in Oil and Gas with a Mining and Minerals Engineering degree, and was trained through courses all over the world, and on the job. The pay is very good, with pretty good benefits. I learned and am continuing to learn a lot while working for them. They do train you in everything you need to know for your job. It is a great company to work for if you are trying to get some experience in the oil field

Cons

Work long long hours, and am never home. i work on the rig, and am suppose to work 28 days on, 14 days off. That never happens. I have been on the rig for 28 days before, then off for one night and back for another 28 days. And the time I am off on the rig, I am called into the base to do calibrations and other jobs like that. So if you want a life outside of work, it is not going to happen. They will also take anything and everything the can from you. This includes time, benefits and money. They will take advantage of you whenever possible, and lie to you so they can continue doing that by promises you things that never end up. They will cancel your vacation at the last minute and yet try and take vacation days away from you because you have too many. If something goes wrong, and even if it is not your fault, they will try to blame you. And then take your pay away. It has happened to me before, and many other of my co workers. Managers will also stab you in the back in order to make themselves look good. Frustrating when you do them a favor and they still stab you in the back. It is a "Cover Your Butt" company. If you do not, you will get blamed for everything.
