Pros

Opportunity to gain experience in an ISO-certified laboratory environment.

Cons

Employees are hired with the promise of a three-month probation period and proper training; however, my experience was very different. From the very first day, the environment was extremely challenging due to staff shortages and a large backlog of pending work. Training was poorly structured, and I was expected to learn multiple procedures at once without clear explanations or sufficient guidance. Breaks were inconsistent, with no proper coffee or lunch breaks taken on time. Compensation was very low for the level of responsibility and workload expected. Communication was also a major issue, as instructions were often unclear, and conversations were frequently conducted in languages other than English in front of trainees and employees, which felt unprofessional and exclusionary. Additionally, I personally faced racist comments from the supervisor in the Mineral Trade department. There was no acknowledgment or regret for such behavior, which contributed to an unwelcoming and toxic work environment. Overall, the workplace culture felt disorganized and toxic, with inefficient working methods, heavy workload, low pay, and no real work–life balance.

Pros

I have enjoyed this job for starting my career. But you will cap out very fast in terms of learning.

Cons

A lot of people will waste your time. People are very slow in doing anything.

Pros

Well-established, globally recognised company with strong credibility Excellent exposure to working in a UKAS / ISO 17025 regulated laboratory Good hands-on training with analytical instruments and laboratory processes Clear standard operating procedures and quality systems Opportunities to build solid technical and data-handling skills early in your career Experience looks strong on a CV, especially for laboratory-based roles

Cons

Workload can be very high, with tight turnaround times and pressure during busy periods Progression and pay increases can be slow and are not always clearly communicated Repetitive work at times, particularly in high-throughput testing environments Staffing levels can feel stretched, which adds pressure to day-to-day work Limited flexibility around working patterns in some roles
