Pros

Employee benefits (day care, health, adoption) are above industry norm, almost all US-based employees have their own office, company closes during week of Christmas, you can obtain 4 weeks of vacation after 10 years (plus Christmas), Great place for young workers direct from college or young families. Very few employees ever work over 38hrs per week and the company promotes this regularly. Majority of perks in the Cary HQ office....

Cons

Are you a Type A personality and career driven? You'll leave in months or bow down before mediocrity. Salaries and bonus are far below tech industry average so SAS does not pursue industry top talent. The executives in R&D, marketing, sales have been there for 10+ years and no one will rock-the-boat or depart so upward mobility is non-existent. The 95% employee retention is not a benefit to be promoted, but curse to career growth. Majority of employees have no defined bonus plan/payout. Found it common to be offered 3x bonus working at IBM, HP, RedHat.

Pros

Excellent business intelligence and analytics software products covering a wide range of industries and business areas. Excellent data management and data integration software. They have made some inroads into packaged business solutions for specifc industries such as banking and insurance, but they stil have some ground to cover. Great place to learn if you are willing to do it on your own.

Cons

Management is not in synch with corporate goals. Middle and senior managers tend to overly focus on their own team's objectives and expanding their teams, often at the expense of corporate objectives. There is a lack of real leadership in some areas and therefore silos abound and fleurish. Business solutions lack ease of use and documentation. The company lacks internal training programs. Consultants are pretty much left to learn on their own. Lastly, and unfortunately, if you are part of a minority group your chances of making it to middle management and actually keeping your job are very, very slim.
