Pros

Government like employee retention policy, no one gets fired or leaves. Great culture for such a large company Great Healthcare Beautiful Campus.

Cons

Hiring family within the same work group is "not allowed" but the policy isn't enforced. How a company this large doesn't see that is a problem is beyond me. DMV like retention policy, no one gets fired or leaves so ideas and promotions are very stagnant. IT managers have a "but we have always done it this way" mentality. Oppressive turfism is some areas Intertwined areas of responsibility Very few employees work at the SAS described in Fortune, the rest are just a number. Company culture breeds complacency and people who desire to move up and have responsibility are held down so the people around them can "work just hard enough not to get fired." I feel like I'm on the set of Office Space everyday. Promotions or transfers rely on the good ole'boy program. Pay is industry low

Pros

Good salary, benefits but most of them are useless to most people.

Cons

Senior management has no clue about the industry practice they are heading. People expect everything on a platter and make an issue out of everything.

Pros

The benefits are wonderful including the health care package, reimbursement for day care, supported preventative health care services and programs, etc. SAS pays fairly based on the locale. The profit sharing and retirement funding seems fair for a private company.

Cons

No real career paths defined or realistic opportunities for those of us that are career focused instead of job focused. Lower level / new management and leadership training does not exist. If you want to grow your existing technical skills, that exists. However if you want training to promote yourself into a leadership role, it's all on you to driver yourself and hope that it meshes with the "SAS-way".
