Post-pandemic executive leadership and policy changes have raised concerns about the company's direction, particularly regarding employee well-being. The transition from CFO to CEO has seen a shift towards more rigid office hours, with the removal of flex time. This policy change has been challenging for many employees, especially those commuting from afar or managing caregiving responsibilities. The benefits of flex time, which supported a work-life balance without cost to the company, seem to be undervalued by the executive leadership (CEO and CPO specifically). Moreover, the perspectives and actions of the current leadership, specifically the CEO, Jason, and the Chief People Officer, Dana, appear increasingly disconnected from the daily realities and needs of their workforce. Statements made during town halls about the cost of living adjustments (due to skyrocketing prices in South Florida)—coupled with visible personal expenditures by the CPO—suggest a growing gap between executive lifestyles and the broader employee experience (she bought a multi-million dollar home when she relocated to Miami). This is starkly different from the tenure of the previous CEO, Michael Bayley, who was a staunch advocate for employee-centric policies. The core issue lies in the perceived shift from a 'people-first' culture to one where financial considerations overshadow employee satisfaction and engagement. This change has palpably impacted morale, with many employees feeling less inclined to extend themselves beyond the bare minimum required. It is disheartening to see a once vibrant and supportive workplace culture decline. As someone who has deeply valued being a part of this company, I hope that future decisions will realign with the ethos that once made Royal Caribbean Group a remarkable place to work. This environment, created by the CEO and CPO, is fertile ground for union activity.
