      Great technology, interesting products, & some great people... but with some problems

      Pros

      The products & technology you will be exposed to at Rolls-Royce are interesting & challenging. There are quite a few good people & many are exceptionally intelligent. It is very hard to get fired, so the job is very stable.

      Cons

      There is a "consensus culture", where many different opinions & approvals are needed before anything can be done. Part of this is big business, but it seems especially bad here. Leadership is, at best, simply bad at communicating. At worst, they seem a bit clueless. The company is made up of "silos" and "fiefdoms", with different functions & businesses vying for control. This, of course, makes it hard to get anything done or changed for the better.

      Pros

      Excellent graduate programs, good opportunities for development, there is the chance to get international exposure, the training is extensive and of good quality, engineering institution fees are funded and mentoring is provided, there are well developed and established processes that aim to standardize best practices across the enterprise, there is the feeling of a clear vision and strategy, the strategy is deployed to lower levels.

      Cons

      It is difficult to implement change at some factories. General cons of big enterprises where information & best practices are difficult to implement or share across different businesses/factories.

      Pros

      Good salary, friendly colleagues, exciting company to work for and a very varied work load so no day is boring. Office well is well situated for commuting from nearby towns.

      Cons

      Have yet to find any! In large corporations there will always be red-tape, bureaucracy and things that can be improved. When and if I do find something that I feel should be addressed I hope what I comment on will be taken into consideration.
