Pros

Interesting industry, products and customers. Very technology and engineering driven.

Cons

Senior management constantly changing priorities and strategies. A new round of headcount reductions every six - twelve months. Company is trying to offset cost problems by cutting headcount and compensation and benefits -- seems like management considers this to be the universal answer to everything. Support functions have been especially hard hit making it difficult for business units to get the information they need.

Pros

The Rolls-Royce Takover Target submitter hit it right. Training is great - they basically have a university with great classes and instructors. The benefits are pretty good. Starting salaries are competitive. They have an interesting product - if you are "into" jet engines. They have a great library and a museum.

Cons

Forget about getting a raise. They are continuing to cut benefits ( the company is bleeding cash - it costs R-R more $$ to make a jet engine than what they sell for). Their suppliers tell R-R what to do. They tell R-R to change their quality specifications (in the supplier's favor) or the supplier will raise their prices. Management beats the heck out of their "underlings" come performance review time (management sets expectations that can't be met - therefore, they have a reason to fire you - in case they want). And the owners, R-R U K, is just look only at the numbers R-R N/A is producing and not the whole picture of what is going on. Very difficult to advance or transfer positions. Cumbersome systems to work with.
