Pros

Sales training. The Robert Half model is based on activity and connects. You have a real opportunity to connect with amazing people in the respective industry you represent as well as having access to a large database of candidates. All recruiters need to come with relevant work experience to be in the role. This is truly an advantage when you are developing your business, and understanding your candidates technical skill sets.

Cons

Not really downsides per say but this what I would tell someone considering a field sales role with RHI. The environment is structured and management heavy which pushes their employees to keep up activity which is a plus, however, if you don't like to be micro managed then you would be hard pressed to be successful in their culture. Additionally, recruiters are in sales and not every candidate is placeable which is the unfortunate part of the business. Don't be fooled this is not an environment where you have a lot of time to counsel candidates that aren't highly placeable. This is a sales job through and through, which I can't really say is a downside per say, it is just good to know that going into the role.

Pros

It's a well known name in the staffing industry. They require no real experience to get a job so the less you have the better. That way they can low ball you into a job and promise you the sun, moon and stars of big commission checks- which never seem to happen. They are constantly changing the bonus structure making it more and more difficult for the new hires to earn a bonus check until after a year of employment. Even after you earn a bonus they will think of a way to change it so you stop earning an extra money on top of your low base salary.

Cons

No work / life balance. Incompetent management teams. Lack of experience within the recruiting staff. Management has no backbone to make decisions. The sales tracking model is not followed. Mediocre behavior is rewarded. They love wasting your time with meeting after meeting where you continue to talk about the same thing over and over again. They do not promote people with true leadership and/or management skills - they promote whomever has been dumb enough to stay there the longest. The people who are too lazy to get a real career stick around and become their Division Directors, Branch Managers and the ultimate waste of space - Regional Managers....

Pros

Hard work along with results are definitely rewarded. This is a great training ground to learn to sell in a highly competitive environment. You get the opportunity to work individually and as a part of a team. You also get the opportunity to learn to sell and recruit. Some offices and other companies separate these functions. I think the rotation works best. If you figure out the system, keep your head down, your nose clean and build relationships with your clients and candidates at a very professional level, you will be successful. Once you are a proven producer, demand that your manager not burden you with tasks that take away time from your production.

Cons

Reaching your numbers and commission goals comes at a price. The pace needed to be successful wears you out. I lasted several years and made lots of money but I had to work long hours to do this. I could not achieve the work/life balance I desired. The office is also full of drama which I did not care for. Sometimes luck plays a part and people get better target accounts than others. You can get totally cut out of commission on deals that you contributed to. The other lines of business undermine you and there is a lot of internal struggle. The clients pick up on this and are very annoyed by it. You need a good manager to stand up for you so that you can concentrate on your production. Having a weak manager will hurt your potential success.
