Pros

Discount of clothes, uniform and the friends I made.

Cons

I worked on the fitting rooms and on shoes what I can tell you is you are left by yourself and given no help even when it gets really busy which becomes chaotic. They are unreasonable to students for time of for exam season. They make you come in for meetings on a sunday morning for the occasionally which is 15mins, if you do not have work on this day this can be very frustrating. The management treat you like robots, infact they brake employment law as they will happily keep calling you in, even if that means you have worked 7 days in a row. Also when you do overtime it is very unlikely they will not pay you for it so it must be the best thing to do would be to write down all your over time hours incase you need to recall this with them.

Pros

Employee satisfaction is a big factor with River Island which has made my experience of my first independent job an enjoyable and educational one. Time off is never a problem and any situations I have presented have always been facilitated for. Everyone within the workplace is deemed equal on and off the floor and management are professional making sure customers and employees are rightfully managed. All situations whether good or bad are explained when dealing with customers and retail information is heavily educated offering an in-depth knowledge of fashion and growing styles within society. River Island ensures it's fashion and styles suit customers of all cultural backgrounds and sizes and it's level of professionalism and enthusiasm for fashion makes it one of the leading retail companies in my eyes.

Cons

Challenges are honestly hard to come across when dealing with River Island however customers tend to be the only memory when thinking of downsides to working in retail. Some customers tend to be quite blunt when it comes to buying clothes and if such sizes or styles are not in stock they seem to think it's the employee's fault whereby its not. Regarding the running of River Island I feel employee appreciation is something that should be awarded. At Christmas when I first started, we were given vouchers however this was done away with. Due to the wide popularity of this growing company, I feel River Island should award their employees more at Christmas for such commitment and hard work throughout the working year. There is no better feeling than being presented with a gift for hard work, especially at the giving time of Christmas.
